Eyelash extensions and tabbing are usually the two recommended options for eyelash beauty treatments. But what exactly is tabbing? And how does it compare to eyelash extensions?

What Is Eyelash Tabbing?

Eyelash tabbing is a technique used to temporarily darken and thicken eyelashes with multiple synthetic lashes applied close together on the lash line. It is great for short-term needs, such as special events. The style typically lasts 3 to 5 days and provides more volume and length.

Pros and Cons of Eyelash Tabbing

  • The procedure is fast and saves time.
  • Less maintenance is needed. Good for clients who look for a low-maintenance solution.

  • It can last 3 to 5 days only.
  • Small charge fee for this service.
  • Heavier clusters may damage the lashes.

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are thin, synthetic fibers or strands that look like individual lashes. Eyelash extensions are composed of silk, mink, or synthetic attached to the lashline with glue. They add the length and thickness of lashes for an enhanced look.

Pros and Cons of Eyelash Extensions:

  • High ticket service if doing good.
  • It can last 2 to 3 weeks.

  • The work is time-consuming. (around 2 hours for a full set)
  • Proper aftercare is needed.

The Different Audiences for Eyelash Tabbing and Extensions

If the client budget is low (around $50), you can do lash tabbing. If the client has a higher budget (around $100-$250), then eyelash extension is a service to recommend.

Available Time

Eyelash tabbing can be done in 30 to 45 minutes, while eyelash extensions need at least 1 hour. So lash artist needs to confirm if the clients have enough time to do the job.

If the clients like the short term use for a special event, then eyelash tabbing is a good choice. Or recommend eyelash extensions instead if they look for a long term solution.

Can You Visually Tell The Difference Between Eyelash Tabbing and Extensions?

No. It is almost impossible to spot differences between eyelash extensions and eyelash tabs by looking with your eye. However, eyelash extensions are customizable.
