Plastic in the Lash Industry

Avoiding plastic is more difficult than ever, especially for things not immediately thought of like eyelash extensions and supplies.

Each year, the beauty industry produces more than 120 billion units of plastic waste. Plastic can take 2000 years to break down, even then leaving traces of micro plastics. It is incredibly toxic and dangerous to the earth’s sea creatures and our Ocean’s ecosystem. There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean right now and our ocean is crying out its last breaths for help. Ecosystems are disrupted, landfills are filling up and we are losing the plastic battle more and more every day.

There is a solution. We can start to reverse the damage and waste being brought on by plastic disposables. Can you guess how? The answer is not only recycling… it is reducing single-use plastics. Reducing or eliminating the use of daily single-use plastic needs to happen to get our Oceans and Planet healthy. Bamboo options can be an alternative for you to reduce the single-use plastic disposables in your lash room.

Here are a few reasons why bamboo is making its way into the beauty industry:

  • Bamboo is a renewable and 100% biodegradable resource.
  • Bamboo has an amazing growth rate. Some species of bamboo grow more than three feet each day!
  • Bamboo creates very little waste. After harvesting, virtually every part of the plant is used to make a wide variety of products. From beautiful furniture to lash wands, every part of the plant can be utilized.

Economic development. In less developed countries where unemployment leads to civil unrest, bamboo production and the manufacturing of bamboo products provides job opportunities in areas that desperately need social and economic stability.

There is always an alternative to plastic. The more we support each other and influence each other to make small, positive changes every day – the more impact we will have in this industry. We cannot leave our children and our future generations, with a broken planet. When given the choice between plastic and the future, choose the future.

You could boost your business as clients appreciate your passion for better products that do not harm our environment. At an affordable cost to you as a lash artist, you could provide clients with the most luxurious lash extensions and supplies that do not harm our planet and oceans.
